I am a 15 year-old, born-again believer, and Baptist pastor's kid.
But, I like the color black.
Yeah, most pastor's kids PROBABLY wouldn't be seen in this. But, as my style has evolved, black seems to fit my style. But I will assure you, black is not the only color I wear. Infact, I love wearing a colorful maxi skirt, or a flowery dress.
But, today is not going to be a style post, even though those will come soon!
This has been on my heart recently, and I decided to try and express it into a understandable post.... bare with me here.
Anyway.
Style does not define you.
What do I mean by that? Well, for instance. I have heard the word "emo" thrown around a few times, when I wear a lot of black. I completely understand it's all in good fun, and I even get a laugh out of it! But, with that, brings up a much wider subject of style.
Normally, you wouldn't think that a Baptist pastor's kid likes to wear a lot of black. I use to think that. But as my style evolved, black seemed to fit something that I would consider "my style."
Now, I personally think that EVERY person should have their own style, and to wear the things that they feel fit their style. But while style is important, so is modesty. My parents have always had the rule, that with letting us wear jeans, they can not be tight fitting, and shirts can not be low cut, and it has to go to at least our knees. Because, while I am still trying to express my style, honoring God is much higher on the list.
I am a full believer in style, and expressing your style, but your style should always be honoring to God. Which for me, means dressing modestly. With that, comes sometimes not dressing to completely fit your style. But, what is more important? You or God? Well, the obvious answer, is God!
1 Corinthians 6:20
"For ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."
So, that kind of seemed like a bit of rambling, so, I'm just going to sum it up for you:
Express yourself through your style. But your style doesn't define you. But always make sure you are honoring God with it.
I hope that you enjoyed this post! I am considering doing a style series, so you all can get a little more of an idea of my style. :) Let me know what you think!
Compassionately,
-Abigail Rose
